Rudd completes Capitol Hill internship

Wendy Rudd, a second year full-time MSW student graduating in May, completed an internship in Rep. Allyson Schwartz’s congressional office in Washington, D.C.

What did your internship entail?
“I did all sorts of things, lots of constituent contact, attending briefings and turning in memos about them, small research projects, help with events. One time a group of BSW students from Tennessee came to visit the office and another staffer (who is an MSW) and I got to talk with them about what we were doing and how this was a part of social work.”

Why did this position interest you?
“I applied for this internship because I’m really interested in the policy side of social work. The congresswoman has an MSW herself (from Bryn Mawr) and is very focused on health care policies, and another staffer in her office also has an MSW. It was really great to be up there and see that there are a lot of social workers on the Hill working as legislative aids, lobbyists, and even representatives/senators.”
