Macro networking night helps students and alums connect

On March 29, 2016, the UNC School of Social Work hosted its annual Macro Practice Networking Night for students, faculty, staff and alumni of the MSW program’s Community, Management and Policy Practice concentration. About 75 attended the after-work mixer, which was held at The Frontier, a co-working space located in Research Triangle Park.

The evening included a tour of The Frontier; a brief program of speakers; recognition of Dr. Kathleen Rounds, who is retiring; facilitated small group conversations; open networking time; and a buffet of food and beverages. It was organized by Dr. Sarah Verbiest and Sarah Marsh.

In addition to providing a valuable opportunity for students and alumni to connect, the event also helped faculty garner ideas for the macro program.

“We got some great feedback from the breakout groups with ideas for how we can better connect with our macro practice alumni,” said Verbiest. “There was a lot of energy and excitement in thinking about increased opportunities for continuing education, lectures and networking in the future. Many good things to come!”
