Lundin ’08 receives NAMI-NC President’s Award

Marilyn J. Lundin, MSW ’08, of Smithfield, N.C., was presented with the prestigious President’s Award on Friday, Oct. 7, at the 2011 convention of the North Carolina chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) held at the McKimmion Center at North Carolina State University.

The NAMI North Carolina President’s Award is given to recognize an individual who has persevered in their battle against mental illness and has made a positive difference in the lives of others. Lundin, who works with at-risk children and families in Johnston and Wayne Counties, has invested countless hours and dollars in an effort to help improve the lives of the families that call on her 24/7 for help. She also saw the need to bring a voice for the mentally ill in Johnston County and founded the Johnston County affiliate of NAMI in June of 2007.

NAMI of Johnston County offers support and education for those with mental illness, their families and friends.
Lundin was featured in a Nov. 20 Herald newspaper article, “Mental health leader shares her story.”
