Job Description
Freedom House Recovery Center is seeking a Health Care Counselor (HCC) for part-time/PRN position for our residential halfway houses for men and women. These houses located in Durham, Chapel Hill and Norlina. Must have a High School diploma or equivalent and have a willingness to work shifts. Recovery experience is preferred. Peer Support Certification is a plus.
Applicant must have excellent organizational skills, have proven ability to work well with high-risk and special populations with mental health and/or substance abuse disorders. Valid North Carolina driver’s license and a good driving record are required as the HCC provides transportation to clients to off-site activities using agency vehicles.
The staff member in this position works alone. Must be able to take and successfully complete trainings in MindSet; our de-escalation techniques training, CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration. Computer experience necessary to document in our electronic medical record system.
PRN staff
PRN staff are required to work one shift/month to remain on the list of available staff needed for coverage. PRN staff select the available days/shifts that they will be able to work when the schedule is prepared at least two weeks before the month begins. Need is for coverage on holidays, weekends, evenings, and nights. Weekend coverage may be for 8, 16 or 24 hours at a time. Sleep hours are available during the 12a – 8a shift as clients are usually asleep at the start of the shift and are up between 6-7 a.m. to receive medication and prepare/eat breakfast.
