Bledsoe and Chapman named 2017 Fellows of the Society for Social Work and Research

Associate professor Betsy Bledsoe and professor Mimi Chapman have been selected to join the 2017 class of Fellows of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR). The UNC School of Social Work colleagues are among 55 faculty from colleges and universities across the country tapped for the honor.

SSWR Fellows are members who have served with distinction to advance the mission of the society—to advance, disseminate, and translate research that addresses issues of social work practice and policy and promotes a diverse, equitable and just society.

The society established the SSWR Fellowship to honor and recognize current SSWR members for their individual accomplishments, leadership and contribution to SSWR as a scientific society. SSWR Fellows are expected to serve as role models and mentors for individuals pursuing careers in social work research and continue to actively advance the mission of the society. (See a full list of the 2017 SSWR Fellows).

Bledsoe, who has been with the School since 2007, focuses on mental health services research, evidence-based practice, interpersonal psychotherapy, mood and anxiety disorders, and clinical intervention research.

Chapman, a faculty member since 2001, focuses on social work practice, child abuse and neglect, children’s health and mental health, immigration and acculturation.

The selected fellows will be honored in January during the annual Society for Social Work and Research Conference in New Orleans, La.
