Resource Fair highlights area agencies working with immigrants, refugees

The School’s student Latinx Caucus and Social Justice Action Committee recently hosted “Connecting Community,” a resource fair for agencies working with refugees and immigration. Representatives from 10 area agencies presented briefly on their work with immigrant and refugee communities in the areas of mental health, public health, community organizing, domestic violence, and education. Each participating organization also shared information with students, colleagues and other social work professionals about how social workers and other health professionals can partner for change.

Participating agencies included: Carolina Outreach Behavioral Health Urgent Care, Compass Center, Consulate of Guatemala, Consulate of Mexico, UNC Refugee Mental Health and Wellness Initiative, El Centro Hispano, Legal Aid, El Futuro, Carolina Latinx Collaborative, Immigrant and Refugee Health Program from the Orange County Health Department, Community Empowerment Fund, Student Action Farmworkers and U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants. Agency representatives shared information about their services through presentations and table displays for students, colleagues and other social work professionals.
