Former professor Hortense McClinton was featured on the University’s website honoring 225 years of Tar Heels. McClinton was the first African American professor at UNC.
Clinical assistant professor Marilyn Ghezzi was mentioned in the latest issue of the NASW-North Carolina newsletter for her work with the chapter’s Continuing Education Peer Review Board. Ghezzi has been a member of the board since 2009.
MSW student Mariah Cowell was featured in the Daily Tar Heel article, “Mariah Cowell, UNC graduate student receives social justice award.”
A panel discussion hosted by our Latinex Student Caucus and Social Justice Action Committee was featured in the Daily Tar Heel article, “Learn more about the relationship between, ICE, immigrants and activists.” The event included speakers from the N.C. Justice Center, a progressive research and advocacy organization focused on eliminating poverty; Alerta Migratoria, a community hotline led by immigrant womxn; and El Futuro, a community-based program that offers mental health services to the state’s Latino immigrant community. Panelists addressed immigration policy, family separation, the evolution of ICE, advocacy and activism.
The School’s Project NO Rest was recently featured on ncIMPACT, a series that examines issues vital to the state. The feature, which focused on human trafficking, included interviews with project colleagues Margaret Henderson, a lecturer at the School of Government, and Nancy Hagan, a senior human trafficking analyst. The half hour episode will air on UNC-TV in March, with the date to be announced.
