Alumni briefs: Washington, MSW ’93; Thompson, Ph.D. ’12; McDonald, MSW ’16; Burras, MSW/MPA ’79

In May, Daryl Washington, MSW ’93, was appointed as the executive director of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Service Board (CSB). The Fairfax-Falls Church CSB is the largest public behavioral healthcare organization in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  As CSB’s executive director, Washington is responsible for a budget of approximately $180 million dollars, more than 1,000 full-time employees and an agency that serves nearly 22,000 individuals a year.  Washington has 25 years of experience in the behavioral healthcare field and 23 years as a licensed clinical social worker. Over the course of his career, he has worked for Fairfax County Public Schools as a school social worker, and with several group behavioral healthcare practices in the private sector, providing services to youth, adolescents, and adults. Washington is a resident of Fairfax County and lives in the Centreville area with his wife and three children.

Aaron Thompson, Ph.D. ’12, was featured in the article, “Social Work in School – Building a Mental Health Support System for Students,” which was published by the Advance Healthcare Network.

Donald McDonald, MSW ’16, was featured in the Sampson Independent article, “Cycle of addiction, recovery.” McDonald is the executive director of Addiction Professionals of North Carolina.

Jay Burrus, MSW/MPA ’79, retired this month as Dare County’s director of Health and Human Services after serving in a leadership role for the past 39 years.
