School honors field instructors during annual appreciation conference

Nearly 130 people participated in the School of Social Work’s annual Appreciation Conference for Field Instructors and Task Supervisors on May 19. The day-long event honors agencies across the state for supporting the School’s Field Education Office and for providing valuable internships for MSW students.

Kim Strom-Gottfried, the School’s Smith P. Theimann Distinguished Professor for Ethics and Professional Practice, was the keynote speaker for this year’s conference and presented on “The Ethics of Social Justice: Living Social Work Values and Standards.” Participants also attended afternoon workshops that focused on early childhood, families with gender non-conforming youth, challenges in integrated health care, and the grand challenges of social work.

Each year, the School also awards local agencies that exemplify “the best of the best” in field instruction. Award winners this year were: the Center for Child and Family Health; Piedmont Health Services; Catholic Social Services; Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools; and the UNC Department of Clinical Psychology, Evergreen Clinic.
