The UNC School of Social Work is again offering a week-long intensive training program in the Satir Growth Model, for coaches, leaders, counselors and therapists.
The Satir method is based on the teachings of the late Virginia Satir, a social worker and “pioneer of family therapy.” It proposes a family communication paradigm, which was developed in the 1960s, and focuses on self-awareness and the discovery of inner strengths to help individuals, couples, and families better cope with stress and change and ways to create more positive relationships with others.
The 7-day training will be held at Extraordinary Ventures in Chapel Hill from Sunday, July 24, to Saturday, July 30, 2016. This is a unique opportunity to participate in an intimate, small group intensive training session. 40 NBCC-approved continuing education credit hours will be awarded for the course.
The $1,500 program fee includes tuition, course materials, one group dinner, and beverages and snacks during the workshop. A block of rooms at the Residence Inn in Chapel Hill have been reserved at a special rate for workshop participants (make reservations here). There are a limited number of Satir scholarships available for students as well as financial assistance in exchange for volunteering some time to assist during the workshop. Students can receive $1,000 off of the $1,500 fee and non-students who qualify can receive a $750 discount.
