Alumni briefs: Taboada ’12, Wacker ’07

Arianna Taboada, MSW/MSPH ’12, was selected for the Trainee Ambassador Program (TAG) of The Maternal and Child Health Bureau’s (MCHB) Division of MCH Workforce Development. TAG is a group of former trainees who mentor and support current trainees in their graduate and undergraduate programs. The goal of the TAG is to: Foster connections between current and former trainees across the MCH Training Program; provide all trainees with leadership development opportunities through a mentoring program, trainee forums, and collaborative research projects; and strengthen the link between current trainees, former trainees and MCHB.

Taboada was a two-time trainee with MCHB, first as an undergraduate at UCLA’s Center for Healthier Children, Families, and Communities; then as an MSW student in the UNC School of Social Work program coordinated by Dr. Kathleen Rounds. “The training was instrumental in my professional development, and I am looking forward to working with current trainees and the MCHB,” said Taboada.

Julia Wacker, MSW/MSPH ’07, a maternal and child health alumna, manages the Mobile Medication Program for the N.C. Hospital Association. She is featured in the Aug. 16 News & Observer story and video, “Rural programs help spread mental health care from door to door.”
