On April 13, the School of Social Work hosted its annual Career Day.
Over the course of the academic year, the School offers numerous professional development workshops for students to prepare them for the job search. These workshops cover a variety of topics, including crafting professional resumes and portfolios, interviewing skills and tips, and job search strategies. The professional development workshops culminate with Career Day.
The job fair at Career Day provides an opportunity for our MSW students, as well as undergraduate students from North Carolina BSW programs, to discuss employment options with representatives from social services agencies from throughout the state. Representatives from 63 agencies and approximately 100 MSW and BSW students attended.
The day also included a panel discussion with faculty, graduates and recruiters on “Putting Your BSW to Work,” an overview of UNC’s MSW program, and an optional admissions and financial aid information session.
Following the job fair — which encompassed all floors of the School — an afternoon continuing education workshop was held for recruiters and alumni. Kim Strom-Gottfried, Ph.D., presented “Ethical Obligations with Colleagues.”
Career Day is a wonderful networking opportunity, connecting our MSWs and area BSW programs to agencies across the state.
