Alumni briefs: Cagle ’98, Chandler ’06, Hughes ’14, Johnson ’14

Bobby Cagle (BA ’89, MSW ’98), the director for the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), was named as one of 83 “Notable Georgians” by Georgia Trend magazine. Notable Georgians are those who are having a substantial impact on the state. The honor was bestowed upon all recipients at a luncheon at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Atlanta. As DFCS director, Cagle leads an organization that provides child welfare and economic assistance programs serving 1 in 5 Georgians each year, administers a $1.2 billion budget, and oversees the work of more than 7,300 staff in 159 counties.

Tara Chandler, MSW ’06, was highlighted in the February issue of NASW news in the “Social Work in the Public Eye” feature, for being quoted in an online article by News 13, the ABC affiliate serving Asheville, about selfies becoming a social media phenomenon.
