Faculty and staff briefs

Thaddaeus Edwards of the Behavioral Healthcare Resource Program (BHRP) is a cast member in an upcoming play at the Manbites Dog Theater, “The Best of Enemies,” running Sept. 11-27. The play is set in 1971, as Durham struggles with school desegregation. An African American civil rights activist and a member of the Ku Klux Klan become unexpected allies. The story is described as “an incredible true story of change, friendship and redemption.” Advance ticket purchase is encouraged, as all shows of this play were sold out last year.

Jodi Flick presented on Aug. 1, “Suicide and the Military” at the N.C. Substance Abuse conference in Wilmington. On Aug. 7, she trained law enforcement officers from three counties on “Intervention in Suicide” at their Crisis Intervention Training class. On Aug. 14 , she conducted a training on “Responding to Families and Communities Affected by Methamphetamine,” and Aug 15, on “Clinician Safety: Keeping Yourself and Clients Safe,” both at the Children’s Conference in New Bern.

Rebecca Macy, Ph.D., was honored as a “Hometown Hero” with the Village Pride Award, given by WCHL radio on July 28. Macy is the associate dean for academic affairs and the L. Richardson Preyer Distinguished Chair for Strengthening Families. She was honored for her work to strengthen families in our community through the MOVE program, which stands for Mothers Overcoming Violence through Education and Empowerment. Listen to the feature

Promotions

Marilyn Ghezzi was promoted to clinical assistant professor.

Melissa Godwin was promoted to clinical assistant professor.

New faculty and staff members

Bernice Adjabeng joined the Behavioral Healthcare Resource Program (BHRP) as an administrative support associate.

Annamae Giles is a new clinical instructor and field faculty with the School’s Winston-Salem Distance Education MSW Program.

Erin Murphy recently joined the School as the Satir Program coordinator.

Retirement

School receptionist Ginger Haithcock has retired.
