Booklet promotes macro graduates to potential employers

A new booklet is helping promote recent graduates of our Community, Management, and Policy Practice (CMPP) concentration to potential employers.

Faculty members Mat Despard and Sarah Marsh originally created the publication to be used as a handout at CMPP networking night in March, to introduce final-year students who are looking for employment to alumni and field instructors at the event. Then Despard realized this was a tool that could help connect students with employers long after networking night was over, by distributing a digital version more widely.

The booklet features 17 2014 MSW graduates, one on each page, with their photo, a brief bio with their qualifications and interests, the type of position they are looking for, and contact information.

“The electronic version is what we can share with alumni and field instructors who didn’t attend the event, as well as other colleagues who work in or with organizations that may have, or know about, openings,” said Despard.

“Our CMPP graduates are really smart, talented, and hard working, but it can be more challenging to find macro-related social work job opportunities than clinical ones,” he said. “Most students will discover job opportunities through networking, not online ads. So faculty members are reaching out and asking alumni, field instructors, and colleagues to help our graduates learn about opportunities.”
