Family Support Program hosts child development team from Singapore

On April 24, the Family Support Program at the UNC School of Social Work hosted a visiting team from the KKH Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Singapore.

The UNC Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute invited the group, led by developmental pediatrician Dr. Mary Daniel, to visit with faculty at FPG and other UNC units that have a focus on child development, as well as faculty at Yale University.

Tamara Norris, clinical associate professor and associate director of the Family Support Program, and Barbara Leach, FSP project coordinator, met with the team to describe U.S. policies and programs for individuals with disabilities and approaches for supporting families with children who have special needs. Norris also arranged for the visitors to tour The Centers for Exceptional Children in Winston-Salem, which houses the Family Support Network of Greater Forsyth, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Women’s Hospital of Greensboro, where the Family Support Network of Central Carolina operates a program for families with an infant in the NICU. These local FSN programs are affiliated with the Family Support Network University Office, a part of the Family Support Program.
