Washington receives GADE Research Award

Tiffany Washington, Ph.D. ’13, is the winner of the 2014 Student Award for Social Work Research, from the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work (GADE).

The award is given annually to an individual doctoral student or collaborative group of students, whose published (or in press) scholarship advances scientific inquiry in social work or social welfare. The research should serve as a model for scientific rigor, and show high potential to impact social work practice, policy, or research. The winner receives a certificate, $1,000, and reimbursement of SSWR conference travel expenses.

She was honored for her paper, “Fidelity Decision-Making in Social and Behavioral Research: Alternative Measures of Dose and Other Considerations,” which will be published in the journal Social Work Research. The co-authors are Sheryl Zimmerman, John Cagle, David Reed, Lauren Cohen, Anna Beeber and Lisa Gwyther. The research was supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health and the John A. Hartford Doctoral Fellows Program in Geriatric Social Work.

The award will be presented in conjunction with the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) 18th Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Washington will receive the award at the GADE reception on Thurs., Jan. 16, at 8:00 p.m. at the Marriott Riverwalk hotel.

Washington is now an assistant professor at the University of Georgia School of Social Work.
