Howard receives UNC’s Distinguished Teaching Award

Frank A. Daniels Distinguished Professor for Human Services Policy Information Matthew Howard is a recipient of UNC’s 2014 Distinguished Teaching Award for Post-Baccalaureate Instruction.

Each year, only four UNC faculty are selected for the prestigious Distinguished Teaching Award. Chancellor Carol Folt and Provost Jim Dean acknowledged the winners on Jan. 26, mid-court at halftime at the UNC-Clemson basketball game. Recipients were selected by the University Committee on Teaching Awards, and will be honored at a banquet in April.

Howard’s letter from Chancellor Folt stated that the committee “was greatly impressed by the abundant evidence they found for your outstanding contributions to post-baccalaureate teaching on our campus. Both your students and colleagues were enthusiastic in their praise of your commitment to the highest standards of teaching.”

Previous winners from the School of Social Work include Kathleen Rounds, 1996; Florence Soltys, 2001; Iris Carlton-LaNey, 2006; and Shenyang Guo, 2010.

“Please join me in warmly congratulating Matthew both for his accomplishments and for the excellence he brings to our School,” said Dean Jack Richman.
