Lennon joins School’s Board of Advisors

Mary Lane Preston Lennon grew up in Charlotte. She has a B.A. in history from Sewanee: The University of the South and an MSW from the University of Tennessee.

She worked in the field for five years until a move back home to Charlotte from Knoxville precipitated the decision to take time off to raise her two children. During these years, she was a Stephen’s Minister at her church in Charlotte and spent years doing PTA work, including two stints as PTA president at Rama Road Elementary and East Mecklenburg High School.

Lennon recently finished her training to be a Guardian ad Litem in Mecklenburg County, and is working her first case with a foster child in the community.
She has been married to her husband, Tom, for 26 years and has a son, Preston, who graduated from Sewanee and is applying to graduate schools; and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, who is a junior at N.C. State.

The purpose of the Board of Advisors is to help the School of Social Work enhance the perception of the social work profession and promote the stature of the School by assuring that the School offers the highest quality in social work education and responsive service to the people of North Carolina. Currently, 50 professionals are serving on the board, which meets twice a year in the spring and fall.
