In the media: Bowen, Chapman, Macy, Smith, NC-ACE, Jordan Institute

Gary Bowen was quoted in an Aug. 4 Orlando Sentinel story about Camp Corral, which helps children of wounded soldiers. Our School has been providing expertise for Camp Corral since it began in 2011.

Mimi Chapman was quoted in a July 30 News & Observer article, “UNC professors declare support for faculty leader Jan Boxill.”

Rebecca Macy was interviewed in a WCHL radio news story that aired Aug. 15, and featured in an Aug. 14 story on their website, “UNC domestic abuse study finds promising result.”

Macy was quoted in an Aug. 7 article in The Daily Reflector (Greenville, N.C.) about domestic violence, “Predictable crimes, preventable deaths”. There is also picture of meeting participants that includes our new faculty member Cindy Fraga Rizo, and second-year MSW student Elizabeth Jones, who is working with Macy as a research assistant on the project.

Smith had an op-ed published in the Aug. 19 News & Observer, “Putting the person at the center of care.”

The N.C. Academic Center for Excellence in Youth Violence Prevention (NC-ACE), a UNC project established by School of Social Work faculty member Paul Smokowski, was mentioned in a July 28 Fayetteville Observer article, “Documentary exposes reality of bullying in schools.”

The School of Social Work’s Jordan Institute for Families was mentioned in an Aug. 1 WNCT-TV story, “Number of children reported abused or neglected going up.”
