Guo teaches statistics courses and meets social work colleagues in China

Partially sponsored by the UNC School of Social Work, Professor Shenyang Guo taught two statistics courses in China in July and August, 2013. One was for the Quantitative Research Methods Summer School at Shanghai University, a leading training program in China, which was co-sponsored by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Shanghai University. The other was for the International Summer School at Renmin University of China, Beijing.

Participants of both courses included doctoral and masters students; and faculty coming from a variety of disciplines, including sociology, social work, education, business, political sciences, demography and others. During a two-week period, each course examined latest developments in statistical modeling of multilevel and longitudinal data.

He also met with leading social work educators in China, including the president of China’s Council of Social Work Education, Dr. Sibin Wang, which is leading to several potential projects between UNC School of Social Work and Chinese collaborators.
