Alumni briefs: Brown ’11, Lane ’92, Williams ’96, Zelter ’91

Rebecca Brown, MSW/MPH ’11, was hired in December 2012 as the North Carolina Division of Public Health’s Adolescent Health Coordinator. The position came out of a 2009 Adolescent Health Task Force and report submitted to the NC IOM on how the state can improve health for adolescents in a variety of areas. In her new position, she will be working to create a virtual Adolescent Health Resource Center to be available to adolescents, parents, and providers, as well as working to build capacity and bolster coordinated health initiatives across the state that address adolescent health.

Thomas Lane, MSW ’92, is now retired. He left the VA in 1992 in Greensboro to take a job as the Family Advocacy Program Manager for the Marine Corps in Beaufort, S.C. He retired in 2007 as the Director of Social Work for the Naval Hospital in Beaufort. He also did recruit psych evaluations on Parris Island, and treated Marines and Corpsmen from Iraq and Afghanistan for PTSD.

Sha-Lai L. Williams, MSW ’96, was conferred a Ph.D. from the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis during the university’s May 17 commencement. Williams was also inducted into the Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society at the annual Bouchet Conference on Diversity in Graduate Education April 19-20 at Yale University.
