In Memoriam: Goodhand, Hamilton ’92, Southerland ’90 ’05

Former faculty member Judith Goodhand, 80, died March 7, 2013, at Clare Bridge of Chapel Hill. She had an extensive career in social work and children’s services, and held leadership positions in Ohio. She was also a consultant for the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Jordan Institute for Families. Obituary

Maureen Elizabeth Brenner Hamilton, MSW ’92, age 50, of Cary, passed away Feb. 23, 2013, at Duke University Medical Center, surrounded by family. She worked as a social worker concentrating on the welfare of children. She was committed to children in the foster care system and helping families with child adoptions. Obituary

Dannia G. Southerland, MSW ’90, Ph.D. ’05, passed away on Feb. 9, 2013, at Duke University Medical Center. She was 62. Like all other areas of her life, her professional career focused on caring for others. For the past five years Southerland worked with the Services Effectiveness Research Program, within the Department of Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center, conducting research in child mental health. Her focus was on providing quality services to children in foster care, and helping those children transition into adulthood. Obituary
