Kathy Johnson, clinical assistant professor, is leaving the Family and Children’s Resource Program where she has worked since 2002 developing curricula and training child welfare workers statewide. She will continue work this month with Dr. Evelyn Williams on a Child Welfare Workforce Development grant through the U.S. Children’s Bureau, then will retire from state service on Feb. 1 with 36 years of service.
In her career, Johnson has worked as a teacher of the hearing impaired in both residential and public school settings; as a child protective services investigator and adult protective services investigator in several county department of social services; as an abuse and neglect consultant with the N.C. Division of Child Development; as a social services consultant with the Division of Social Services; and as a criminal justice specialist in child sexual abuse and as a certified criminal justice instructor with the State Bureau of Investigation. She has served on the board of directors for the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, and is past president of the N.C. chapter. She currently serves on the board of directors for the North Carolina Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, The Haiti Connection, and The Masonic Home for Children in Oxford.
When she retires, she hopes to become more involved with international grant writing and with the Yahve Jire Children’s Foundation in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
