Guide published on how schools can implement CareerStart program

Professor Dennis Orthner and his research partners on the CareerStart project have developed a new guide that will be distributed to all the school districts in North Carolina. It will be sent out by the Superintendent of Schools in Winston-Salem, the host district for the School of Social work’s evaluation of the program.

CareerStart is an intervention program that helps middle school students connect what they are learning in school to future career opportunities, as a way to reach those most at-risk of failing.

The new guide is a 16-page overview of the program. It includes research findings, and strategies schools can use in implementing CareerStart into their curriculum.
