Briefs: Gadd; Alumni Davis ’68, Eaddy ’09, Greeson ’09, Holt ’01, Mazor ’09, O’Quinn ’12

Rep. Susan Davis, MSW ’68, is a democratic representative from San Diego in the U.S. House of Representatives, and is seeking her seventh term in Congress. She was first elected in 2000.

Jessica Eaddy, MSW ’09, has an article featured in The Phoenix, the newsletter of The Healing Place of Wake County, entitled “My internship at The Healing Place.”

MSW student Jenny Gadd and alumna Selden Holt, MSW ’01, were among the panelists at an Aug. 27 discussion in Raleigh on keeping mental health group homes open. The event was sponsored by NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) of Wake County.

Johanna Greeson, Ph.D. ’09, has accepted a position as an assistant professor at the Penn School of Social Policy and Practice, University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia.

Talya Mazor, MSW ’09, will be working in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools as the first mental health clinician in a district-wide program for elementary school students struggling with mental health issues. The program, located at Estes Hills Elementary School, provides additional behavioral and psychosocial supports in order to help them be successful in school.  Mazor has also announced the opening of Triangle Counseling, a new clinical practice in Chapel Hill. Erin O’Quinn, MSW/MPH ’12, was awarded a Women’s Research and Education Institute (WREI) Fellowship to work as a legislative aide in Washington, D.C., from January through August 2013. The fellowship program places graduate and post-graduate students in Congressional offices and on strategic Congressional committee staffs, and are designed to train potential leaders in public policy formation to examine issues from the perspective, experiences, and needs of women.
