School welcomes Fulbright Visiting Researcher from Slovenia

Ana Marija Sobocan from Slovenia is a Fulbright Visiting Researcher at the UNC School of Social Work this academic year.

Sobocan is a doctoral student, junior researcher and assistant lecturer at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. Her research focuses on professional ethics and exploration of ethical decision making in social work practice. While at UNC, she is working closely with mentor Kim Strom-Gottfried, Smith P. Theimann Distinguished Professor for Ethics and Professional Practice.

“I feel a deep passion towards pursuing the study and research of [ethics]”, wrote Sobocan in her Fulbright personal statement. “Due to the fact that the debate of professional ethics did not yet come to the agenda of social work research, education and praxis in Slovenia, I would like to initiate and consequently contribute to this debate in the following years.”

Sobocan holds a M.A. in Gender Studies from Central European University in Budapest, Hungary; and a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Ljubljana.

As a Fulbright grant recipient, she is fully funded for eight months of graduate research in the United States.
