On Sept. 22, Jeanne Cross served as a panelist on an anti-human trafficking panel at Western Illinois University. The following day, she helped lead WIU’s first Western Against Slavery campus meeting as a social work student and anti-trafficking advocate. On Nov. 3, Cross will be speaking at a convocation at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. in an effort to raise awareness and funding for NGO anti-trafficking efforts. The following day, she will be a guest speaker in two Introduction to Sociology courses on human trafficking. Cross is a first-year MSW student enrolled in the MSW/MDiv dual-degree program. After graduating, she hopes to work full-time in anti-trafficking advocacy and with persons affected by sex-trafficking and/or commercial sexual exploitation.

On Sept. 16, students Jessica Lambert Ward and Susannah Walker presented a workshop, “Historical Trauma: Legacies of Colonialism in American Indian Communities,” at the 5th Annual Conference for American Indian Women of Proud Nations, in Raleigh.
