Thomas Skinner Smith, age 61, of Raleigh passed away unexpectedly Jan. 15.
He was a lifelong Tar Heel fan who received both his undergraduate degree in English (1972) and his master of Social Work (1987) from UNC-Chapel Hill. Smith spent over 30 years working as a social worker in a variety of roles. Whether it was through protective services, foster care, adoption, or family preservation, Smith’s life work as a social worker was aimed at protecting, helping, and strengthening children and their families. At the time of his death, he was working for the State of North Carolina with the Division of Social Services as a program consultant in the Child Welfare Services Section. Obituary
