Continuing education workshop on “Ethics and Confidentiality” offered April 4

As part of the School’s annual Career Day, a continuing education workshop will be offered for recruiters and alumni on Mon., April 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.in the auditorium. Two contact hours are available for completion.

Clinical Assistant Professor Jodi Flick, ACSW, LCSW, will present the workshop “Ethics and Confidentiality.” Social workers face many situations that seem to pit the “best interest of the client” against confidentiality. Clinicians’ fears about violating HIPPA regulations often inhibit their ability to provide support or advocacy for clients or their protection of other people involved with the client. This workshop will describe some of the exceptions to confidentiality in the N.C. General Statutes and explore such issues as “duty to warn” and competence of clients in regard to confidentiality.
