Coggins ’80 named Philanthropist of the Year

The N.C. Cape Fear Region Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals has named Louise Coggins, MSW ’80 and chair of the School of Social Work’s Board of Advisors, Philanthropist of the Year.

The award was given in honor of her community leadership, her personal generosity and her fundraising efforts on behalf of the UNC School of Social Work.

Each year, Coggins and her husband donate 30 percent of their income to charities such as Good Shepherd Ministries, Planned Parenthood, YWCA, N.C. Coastal Land Trust and their church. She focuses on education and public policy, serving on university advisory boards and raising millions of dollars for the UNC School of Social Work. She has also raised more than $250,000 for female political candidates.

Coggins was presented the award at the organization’s National Philanthropy Day awards ceremony and breakfast Nov. 4 in Wilmington.
