The Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) is honoring two from our doctoral program with national awards.

Doctoral candidate Carrie Pettus-Davis is the recipient of the 2011 Doctoral Fellows Award for her dissertation proposal entitled “Support Matters: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Trial of a Social Support Intervention for Recently Released Prisoners with Substance Use Disorders.”
Both of these awards are judged on the “significance of the problem addressed by the research, the rigor of the analysis and contribution to knowledge in social work and social welfare.”

“Congratulations to Eric and Carrie, and a special thanks to Matthew Howard, who chaired Eric’s dissertation committee and is currently chairing Carrie’s dissertation committee and nominated both Eric and Carrie for these awards,” said Kathleen Rounds, doctoral program chair.
