National convention dedicated to pioneer UNC social work scholar

This year, the North American Association of Christians in Social Work  (NACSW) is holding its annual convention in Durham, Nov. 11-14.  The theme is “Celebrating Our Past and Shaping Our Future: A Tribute To Alan Keith-Lucas.”

In 1950, Dr. Keith-Lucas joined the faculty of the UNC School of Social Work, where he also founded the Group Child Care Consultants Services, and was later named Alumni Distinguished Professor of Social Work. He was a past member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers, as well as the board of directors of the North American Association of Christians in Social Work. He authored a number of books, including The Church Children’s Home in a Changing World, The Church and Social Welfare, and Giving and Taking Help. Keith-Lucas continued to write and publish journal articles and books until his death on Aug. 5, 1995.

Associate Professor Amelia Roberts-Lewis has been working with NACSW on planning this event, and is also presenting two workshops at the conference.
