Student Services and recruitment updates

The Student Services office will be joined by two temporary part-time clinical faculty members for the 2010-11 academic year.

Sharon Thomas, the director of recruitment, admissions and financial aid, will be on maternity leave this fall following the birth of her first child. She plans to return to the School in December.

Metta Prieto, MSW ’09, is coming on board as a special assistant to Thomas to work on projects and activities associated with recruitment, admissions and financial aid. Prieto may be contacted this fall to schedule recruitment visits or to meet with prospective applicants.

Lisa Zerden, MSW, Ph.D., will be working with Student Services as a special assistant to the assistant dean, Dr. Sarah Naylor, along with serving as an adjunct faculty member this fall. She received her MSW from the UCLA School of Public Affairs. In 2009 she graduated with a Ph.D. from the Interdisciplinary Social Work and Sociology program at Boston University.

Information sessions for prospective students

The next MSW program information session is Friday, Aug. 13 from 2-4:30 p.m. Fall information session dates are posted on our website. In addition to the ones in Chapel Hill, there are sessions scheduled at each of the distance education program sites.

GRE overview workshops

We are pleased to offer four GRE overview workshops in three different North Carolina locations this fall, exclusively for UNC School of Social Work prospective students. Workshops begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. with a one hour (on your own) lunch break. All workshops are free of charge.
