Rotabi takes active leadership to help Haitian children

Karen Smith Rotabi, Ph.D. ’05, has been taking active leadership in policy analysis and recommendations for the children of Haiti. A recent analysis of the child abduction attempt for adoption scheme by the Idaho faith group gives a thorough overview of the problem and international standards. Also, Rotabi and other child welfare experts wrote an open letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urging DNA tests of those children evacuated. As featured faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University, her comments were videotaped and featured on a recent blog about the children brought to the USA as adoptees and medical evacuees, which underscores current advocacy issues.

Rotabi is an assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work, and a member of the UNC School of Social Work’s Alumni Council.
