Participants needed for ethical decision-making study

Kim Strom-Gottfried, Ph.D., Smith P. Theimann Jr. Distinguished Professor of Ethics and Professional Practice, is seeking practicing professionals for a new study about ethical decision making.

She is pursuing a study on the usefulness of two models of ethical decision making when they are employed in practice. It is funded by a grant from the Armfield-Reeves Innovation Fund.

Strom-Gottfried is soliciting participants to attend a free 2.5 hour training on an ethical decision making model and in doing so, be willing to be selected to keep a monthly diary of the model’s effectiveness in helping with ethical dilemmas. Not all workshop participants will be enrolled in the study, as she will be randomly selecting only three participants from each training session to be “diary keepers.” Those who are selected will be asked to complete the workbook diaries for six months and will receive a $300 stipend for doing so.

All workshop participants will receive 2.5 hours of ethics contact hours. Parking and workshop materials are free. Workshops will be held:

  • June 7, 6-8:30 p.m. at UNC School of Social Work
  • June 8, 2-4:30 p.m. at Cameron Village Library, Raleigh
  • June 10, 6-8:30 p.m. at UNC School of Social Work
  • June 15, 2-4:30 p.m. at Cameron Village Library, Raleigh

This study has been approved by the UNC Behavioral IRB, Study #: 10-0765.
