North Carolina's Ethnic Composition

At the national level, much has been written about increased ethnic diversity of boomers, meaning that the proportion of minority group members is increasing relative to people of European extraction. Historically, a relatively large proportion of North Carolina residents have been African American. At 22 percent, the population of African American boomers is about twice the national average, but this does not mark a substantial change from earlier generations. The Hispanic population of North Carolina is growing, particularly in the boomer age groups, but it still accounts for a very small proportion of the population.
