As North Carolina’s population ages, so does its work force. The “baby bust” that followed the “baby boom” may result in employers having to rely heavily on older workers to maintain productivity. Women are becoming a larger component of the work force, which elevates the importance of elder and child care giving issues.
Our economy is shifting toward service and information industries. The fastest growing occupations tend to be in the professional, paraprofessional, and technical areas. These jobs often require retraining and ongoing upgrading of skills.
