School to Host 2006 Career Day University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work Career Day Career Day Registration Form for Recruiters List of Participating Agencies For all agency directors, field instructors, alumni, and other potential Career Day recruiters: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work is hosting its annual Career Day/Job Fair on Monday, April 3, 2006, from 10:30 am-1:30 pm at the School of Social Work. Additionally, you are invited to attend a continuing education workshop at the School of Social Work from 2:00-4:00pm following Career Day. Sponsors for Career Day include the School of Social Work at the UNC-Chapel Hill, the North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, UNC-Chapel Hill Career Services Office, and Vanguard Professional Staffing. On Career Day, the School invites its students as well as students from North Carolina undergraduate BSW programs to explore social work career opportunities. Graduates of UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work are well qualified, having on average two years of social work experience prior to coming to graduate school. In addition to a curriculum that allows them to concentrate in a field of practice, most students have also had 1200 hours of MSW supervised field practice. North Carolina BSW students come from outstanding BSW programs where students are prepared for beginning-level professional social work positions. Career Day will give your agency an opportunity to recruit MSW or BSW students in Social Work for current and future job openings and to interest them in your field of service. The School of Social Work community , especially the students, are aware of the many changes occurring in human service agencies. The School hopes you will consider participating in this Career Day, even if you do not expect to hire in the next six months. Your presence and insight are valuable and will provide students with a sense of some of the new directions for human services. Last year over 150 students and over 45 organizations attended Career Day. The School would like to increase the number of recruiters in all areas of social work this year, especially in the areas of non-profit management and community development. If you are aware of any agencies that may be interested in sending representatives to Career Day, please alert them to his Web page. If you are unable to attend but have some materials that you would like to be available for students, please send them to the address at the top of the page c/o Beth Sauer and they will displayed at Career Day. Following Career Day, the School has planned a continuing education mini-workshop for recruiters. School of Social Work Professor Dr. Kim Strom-Gottfried will facilitate a workshop from 2:00-4:00 p.m. titled, “Ethical Practice in Supervision.” The workshop will be offered at no cost to recruiters, and the School will provide participants with a certificate documenting completion of two contact hours at the conclusion of the session. If you would like to attend this event, please note your interest on the registration form linked below and return it as soon as possible. A minimum of 10 participants are needed in order to support this workshop. If you are interested in sending a representative to Career Day, please return the attached registration form to us before the registration deadline Thursday, March 16, 2006. Please register as soon as possible; because of limited space, we will accept registration forms for only 50 exhibit booths on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will provide parking and lunch for two agency representatives. For each additional representative, there is a $10 per person fee. I will be coordinating the event along with Beth Sauer, Registrar and Student Services Assistant. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Ms. Sauer at 919-962-6443 or bhsauer@email.unc.edu or me at 919-962-6444 or smnaylor@email.unc.edu. Details about the schedule for the day, parking and transportation, and the continuing education workshop will be mailed in March to all those who plan to attend. We look forward to your participation in this event.
