School Names New Director of Admissions, Recruitment and Financial Aid

Gregory Cooper has joined the faculty of the School of Social Work as the director of admissions, recruitment and financial aid.

Cooper is a 1999 MSW graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Prior to joining the School, Cooper was assistant director of the health professions preparation program with the North Carolina Health Careers Access Program (NC-HCAP). NC-HCAP is an inter-institutional program of the UNC system whose mission it is to increase the numbers of disadvantaged students entering into the health professions.

Preceding his work with NC-HCAP, Cooper directed the summer residential Governor's School for Medicine Program at VCU and served as admissions counselor/coordinator of multicultural recruitment for Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va.

Cooper is elated to be providing leadership for the School's admissions, recruitment and financial aid services. His goal is to establish strong links between the School and bachelor's of social work programs across the state. As a function of this goal, he hopes to engage students, faculty, staff, administration and alumni in the recruitment of prospective students into the master's of social work program.

"I want to really get to know the faculty and to bring them on board with recruitment," he said. "I think it is so vital, especially with recruitment sessions, for students to visibly see faculty and meet them."

He also plans to work closely with alumni.

"I hope to get the alumni on board more with recruitment as well," said Cooper. "I think they play a key role in recruiting students to the program."
