Insoo Kim Berg Speaks at School of Social Work

Insoo Kim Berg will speak at the School of Social Work at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 15 in the auditorium of the Tate-Turner-Kuralt building, 301 Pittsboro St., Chapel Hill.

Berg is nationally and internationally known as co-developer of solution-focused brief therapy, an approach to psychotherapy based on solution-building rather than problem-solving. A native of Korea, Berg balances her heritage with Western scientific training in her clinical practice and teaching. She is the Executive Director of Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, and is a co-developer of the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy model.

As a prolific writer, Berg has published eight highly acclaimed books in 10 years. Her most recent books include Tales of Solutions (2001), Building Solutions in Child Protective Services (2000), and Interviewing for Solutions (1997 and 2001, 2nd ed.). Registration for each lecture is $15.00. Individuals registering for both lectures will receive a free boxed lunch. Seating is very limited, so please register early. PARKING INFORMATION:

On-campus parking is generally available and usually costs $1/hr. at the following lots:

  • Dogwood Deck, located on Manning Drive, diagonally across from UNC Healthcare. This lot is a 15 minute walk to the School.
  • Swain Lot, located off Cameron Avenue, adjacent to the Hanes Art Center. This lot is a 15 minute walk to the School.
  • Hwy 54 Lot, located off Hwy. 54 one block east of Country Club Boulevard (and the Institute of Government). Guests should take the S bus from this lot to the State Employee's Credit Union bus stop on Pittsboro St. which is directly across from the School.
  • Free parking is available, but very limited, at the Chapel Hill Hwy. 54 Public Park and Ride Lot, located near the Friday Center. Guests wishing to park at this lot and take a bus to campus should turn onto Friday Center Drive from Hwy. 54. This free public lot is the first parking lot to the left after passing the Friday Center. Once at this lot, guests should take the S bus to the State Employee's Credit Union bus stop on Pittsboro St. which is directly across from the Tate-Turner-Kuralt building.
